ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C The Northern Innovation and Startup Center will present two programs designed to empower those looking to bring their business ideas to life. The Center, established in late 2022, is committed to fostering innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

The Idea Workshop is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 11 at Northern Valley Communications (NVC) hyflex conference room. ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Any student seeking federal financial assistance will need to fill out the FAFSA. The 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form was revamped to expand eligibility for federal student aid and streamline the user experience.

The new FAFSA form soft launched Dec. 31. Currently, the form is not available all the time, as it continues to be updated.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Northern State University student Therese Haberman will hold her Senior Recital at 3 p.m. Jan. 14 in the Krikac Auditorium. The recital is open to the public and free to attend.

Haberman, a clarinetist, will be playing ¡°Arabesques¡± by Paul Jeanjean, Clarinet Concerto Movement II K. 622 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Clarinet Concerto No. 2 by Oscar Navarro, with accompaniment by Dr. Christopher Stanichar.

Haberman, the daughter of Susan and Michael Haberman, grew up in Bottineau, North Dakota and graduated from Bottineau High School in 2020.¡­

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C Northern State University has been well known as a teacher college since its inception in 1901. It continues to excel at preparing future teachers. Northern¡¯s education program was ranked the best in the state by Niche.

HURON, S.D. ¨C Elementary and secondary teachers looking to expand their expertise, while engaging face-to-face with their peers, are encouraged to enroll in the Northern State University Master of Education in teaching and learning program at the Huron Community Campus (HCC).

The next cohort begins August 2024. Spaces are limited and the cohort is filling fast. Those interested in participating are encouraged to apply online.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C After providing nursing workforce for the Aberdeen community for more than a decade, South Dakota State University will discontinue its accelerated Bachelor of Science in nursing in Aberdeen in Dec. 2026, as Northern State University begins graduating students from its recently approved bachelor¡¯s of nursing program.

Through an agreement between SDSU and Northern, SDSU has been offering the Bachelor of Science in nursing program on Northern¡¯s campus to students who had completed Northern¡¯s pre-nursing courses. The launch of the BSN program at¡­

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C  Last weekend Northern State University Speech and Debate sent a small but mighty crew to New York City to compete in two styles of debate at the Off-Broadway Swing competition. This year marked the largest in the tournament¡¯s long history, as 22 schools from 16 states brought over 400 students total entries to the tournament.

ABERDEEN, S.D. ¨C  This Saturday, Dec. 9, 117 students will graduate at Northern State University¡¯s winter commencement.

The public is welcome to attend and honor our new Wolves alumni. The commencement ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. It is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

Dr. Hannah Walters, Associate Professor in the School of Business and 2023 NSU Foundation Faculty Excellence Awardee, will deliver the commencement address.
